Why do ear gauges smell?

Ear piercings are open holes and if they are not kept clean with alcohol or hydrogen peroxide they may have bacteria which smells! Any Suggestions here?

    Are nail gauges the same as. I was wanting to k ear ring gauges? So I had this good take some nails and just them and boom ear rings throw some o rings on idea for a ear rings

    I believe its from the build up of dead skin cells! All ear holes, even just regular earrings, have that smell, but washing them regularly helps!
