How many grams of carbohydrates should a diabetic eat a day?

Always have same amount, like 24grams of carb at breakfast with 3(18g)oz protein, 36 grams of carbs for lunch and 4oz(24g) protein Any Suggestions here?

    For your 2 1/2 year old daughter, a rule of thumb for calorie needs is approximately 1200 calories/day! Of those 1200 calories, roughly half should come from carbohydrate sources! This would mean that you should strive for about 150 total grams of carbohydrate per day! You can read food labels to obtain important information about carbohydrate contents of food! This should help in stabilizing her sugars if not check with her endo and talk to a dietitian who can help with meal planning! Carbohydrates affect your blood glucose more than any other nutrient! All of the carbohydrates in food turn into sugar in the blood, and they get into the blood at a much quicker rate than fats and proteins! Carbs usually enter the blood stream an hour after consumption and are usually out of the blood stream in 2 hours! Thats why you should check your childs blood glucose levels before he or she eats, and then again 2 hours later! Ideally, the measurement after the meal should be within 30-50 points of the pre-meal levels! If its not, you will need to adjust the carb content of the meal or adjust your childs insulin dosage!For people with type 1 diabetes, knowing the amount of carbohydrates in the food you eat is essential!
