Normally, the strain of HSV that causes oral herpes is not the same as strain that causes genital herpes! Cold sores (aka! oral herpes) are usually caused by HSV-1 which preferentially infects the mouth but can be transmittable to genitals via oral sex! So yes, your sister probably got genital HSV-1 strain herpes from her boyfriend going down on her! Since HSV-1 strain tends to infect the mouth more than the genital area she more than likely she will get cold sores occasionally! The thing with HSV (and any virus) is that it can regress and become active whenever it pleases so only if she has a blister can she infect another person (oral or genital)! So Id suggest she be aware of when she has outbreaks and act accordingly with protection when she does! Hope this helped! Here is a helpful article as well: http://std!about!com/od/herpes/a/oralherpes!htmA second note: Id rely more on webmd or a more legit site than wikipedia for medical questions :)
